What is a Vehicle Make and Model?

When someone refers to their vehicles “make”, it means the company that manufactured the vehicle. These makes are the well known brands of the automotive industry such as BMW, Ford, Toyota, or Honda. The vehicle model is the specific name for the vehicle by the brand, such as Ford’s “Escape”, Toyota’s “Camry”, and Honda’s “Civic”. Knowing the vehicle’s make and model can help determine the characteristics of the vehicle and what its value and capabilities are.

Some automakers have developed certain reputations over the years such as Honda and Toyota being known for their reliability. Porsche, BMW, and Audi are often known for their vehicle’s performance. Mercedes-Benz, Infinity, and Volvo are often known for their vehicles comfort.

Automaker Mergers

There are numerous automotive brands in Canada on the market today. In recent decades, some of the largest automotive mergers have taken place within the industry.

For almost twenty years Ford owned both Jaguar and Land Rover, until they sold them to Tata Motors in 2008. In 2016 Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors merged when Nissan Motor Co. bought out a 34% stake in Mitsubishi, becoming the largest shareholder. In 2012 Volkswagen was supposed to be absorbed by Porshce, but in actuality, Volkswagen completed a reverse takeover of Porsche. Most recently, Honda and Nissan announced a merger plan last year that would create the world’s third-largest automaker.

But no matter what automotive manufacturing mergers disrupt the industry, the MNM team is prepared to work on all makes and models under the sun!
